If it is your very first trip, or you have not driven out of Australia before, I would strongly consider, at least getting a driver for your first couple of trips around. If you are staying in Kuta, then taxis whizz by every minute and its a breeze to get around. For trips further afield, its certainly more relaxing to have a driver so you can all have a good look about instead of concerntrating on not getting lost. We drive ourselves and enjoy it, but it does take a bit of getting used to.
