Feel the same about lovina.
We( family of 4 ) went last year at he start of a 2 week holiday. It was very laid back compared to sanur, ubud, kuta etc but we too felt that the pace and people were more reminiscent of the past- a feeling I certainly appreciated.
Not as glossy or sophisticated as the big 3 but rewarding in its own way. The beach and the hawkers are the only drawback but if you're an aussie you don't really expect the beaches to be as good as back home and the hard reality of bali's poverty that makes it such a cheap travel destination, is the desperation of the locals to make a living from the tourists.
If you take advantage of one, you have to put up with the other.
