I first went to Bali in February 1994.
Initially, I think I was drawn back by the short flight from Perth, cheap cost of a holiday, friendly, smiling Balinese people that could not do enough for you and of course the cocktails!!! I travelled there at least once a year, and now usually 3 or 4 times a year. It always felt like home to me. Whenever I went to another Asian country, I always wished I had just gone back to Bali. Had some good times, but just not the same for me.
What I know now is that it is the energy of the island itself and the spiritual side of Bali, the gentle, kind and friendly Balinese who can always manage a smile, and keep their faith, even when the chips are down.
As soon as I get on the plane, I feel like I am going home and my heart feels light and happy. Having experienced a purification ceremony at the Pura Turta Emple at Tampak Siring with a 5th generation Balinese Healer, Made Sumantra, and the gentleness and acceptance of the local people there, I understand why I have been drawn back time and time again. I am back in June for 2 months and just can't wait!
Cheers Julie
