- Subak (water) Museum (on the left side of the road) because without the almost unbelievable ancient engineering that took water through rock ridges and along aquaducts there would be no rice terraces. You will also see how the ancient farmers derived all of their sustenance just from the rice fields.
A little further on you can rest numb backsides at the Butterfly Park and maybe take a short detour to the village of Marga and see the cemetary and memorial to I Gusti Ngurah Rai, a revered war hero to the Balinese (after whom the airport is named) who lost a significant battle with the Dutch occupying forces near here.
Another remarkable stop is the incredibly serene temple at Pura Luhar Batukaruh on the slopes of that mountain. I think there is no other temple quite like it in all of Bali.
