to call our friends in Bali, but we call them on their flexi phone which we bought for them. The phone only cost about $100 AUD, which is transportable (like a mobile), but we are charged for land-line rates which is only about 9c per minute. We decided to buy the phone for them because we were calling their mobile and paying approx. $1 per minute (from our land-line) and a little bit less using a phone card. (Can't remember the exact rate per minute). Phone cards are definitely much cheaper than calling from your land-line directly. Some of them are cheaper than others, but the line is really bad. We found Daybreak to be quite good. But you will still be paying quite a bit ringing a mobile. Maybe ask them if anybody has a land-line you can call them on, or a flexi phone, because these are also land-line rates. Feel free to e-mail me!
