take cash and if I run out I use the ATM. I take newish $100 notes. In the hotels that I have stayed at they either have an in room safe or security boxes at reception. I have never had any problems doing it this way. I take out $100 at a time and cash it at PT Central (not sure if that is the right name sorry) right next to Matahari. Very honest money changers
