I had to buy a new phone in Bali as mine died on day 2 of a 3 week holiday so I am not sure about phone unlocking etc but can tell you about the phone sim card that I bought.
I got an Indosat card and when I called Oz I always dialled 0101661 as the prefix to a landline and used the same prefix to an Australian Mobile, A few of us had the same card and the rate was sooooo cheap everytime! When we used the regular prefixes mentioned in this thread the credits were soon used and was much more expensive!
