Typhoid was very prevelant in October in Bali that I got myself an injection before travelling in February08.
Also remember that giardia is a common waterbourne parasite that is easily caught from food handling, other people and Australias own water supplies.
Always remember to throughly wash your hands before eating and only drink filtered/bottled water when travelling and in Australia.
My daughter has been extremely sick since October '07 after moving to Perth.
She travelled to Sydney and New Zealand and somewhere along the line she caught giardia.
After doing a search on giardia we were suprised that 1000 people a year have contracted giardia in Perth alone so it's around not only in Bali.
Animals faeces infiltrate the water supplies and in drought weather it must be worse.
This disease takes along time to diagnose, the parasite gestation changes causing an infection that affects the small bowell.
Now my daughter has lost 15 kilos (was only a size 10) and still is having good and bad days.
A special diet is needed of no fat, no fibre, no vegetables so your diagestive system can build up tolarating foods again.
Thought everyone should be aware of this disease so at least you can take simple precautions.
