NYE, and are heading there on the 31st this year. This will be our 3rd family visit during Dec/Jan as it is the only time of year we can get away.
I wouldn't do Xmas again; we are too used to spending the day with family/friends and we all really missed it. The Hotels certainly go all out making their normally compulsory/expensive Xmas dinners special but for us, it just wasnt' the same. I guess if you were'nt used to spending Xmas with family, it would be okay.
We probably had the worst ever NYE in Kuta but it was just after the sunami. Everything closed really early - we were told this was out of respect which is fair enough if true. This NYE we have chosen to stay in Lovina. We must be getting old as NYE has kind of lost it's glitz!!
The weather is HOT, HUMID and the rain a welcome relief. I personally don't mind it but friends and my kids have certainly struggled in it. The weather in Phuket the same time last year was PERFECT. We found it normally rained early morning or a late avo shower.
Like most tourist destinations it is busy, hotels are more expensive because of the time of year (even if the weather ain't perfect).
But hey, i'm going again (and VERY excited as are the kids). Small price to pay for a bit of paradise.
