It seems to happen quite a lot, not just in Indonesia but every where. You can usually get your money back, but it depends on who you are banking with I think.
I have found the best way to protect myself now is to have a separate credit card to the usual every day one. We just have a small limit that we will need in Indonesia or where ever. We notify the bank when we are going and how much limit we want. We also ask them to contact us if a large transaction is made which is what they did recently. We confirmed we didn't make it and were not over seas so they cancelled the card.
It usually happens when you get back, about 5-6 months later.
Saying all of this about overseas a similar situation happened to us with our business here in Australia.
