We have found it can be a bit hit and miss. In Jan 07 my son used his phone and the Bali SIM worked but in November 07 it would not work, the girl was great and tryed everything but ended up having to give us our money back. But hubbies phone works and it is a pre paid but obviuosly not locked. I have a Telstra Next G phone and the other day tryed it out with an optus sim and it worked so will be taking it with us as well in May and maybe one of them will work.
