I have also read the book and was enchanted by it. Its a great read and with it comes lessons in life skills. Try Googling Ketut Liyer there is heaps of info and photos. Kuta to Ubud about 1hour. Cost less than 100000 rp. Even without contacting Ketut its still worth a trip to Ubud.
There is much more to Bali than Kuta. Walk in the rice paddies, visit the art galleries, stay overnight and go and see the Gamalan perform at the Palace. Have a good trip.
