Jane, I am not being mean or anything but if you need to justify your journey to Ubud by finding things to do then maybe you shouldn't go to Ubud. You read as though yopu see it as a base for trips, it is far far more than that! I go to Ubud once or twice a year when I am able to and I never get bored of the things that I find to do in the area, it is a pleasure rich area. :-)
In the morning when I have thought about it more I will post you some things to do in Ubud, not day trips.
