The North side of the island is wonderful, there is really a lot to do and see, such as snorkeling, the best is at Menjangan Island..its only an hour away from Lovina...Gig Gig waterfall isn't far and could be a nice day trip.. Air Panis (Holy Hotsprings)is about 15 min. from Lovina...also a trip towards the East is nice too, theres a nice temple and fresh water swimming pond.....and then of course there are the dolphin trips, you can see the dolphins from the shore too in the early mornings. There are many nice beachfront small hotels, the area is beautiful, rice fields forever, tobacco fields, mountains, great sunsets..., sometimes sunrise too, depending where you're at and the time of the year, I suppose...and the drive to the north is very scenic passing lakes, temples, monkey forests, going through Bedugal...which has a really nice traditional market..great for spices..
The traditional markets are great...the one in Singaraja is big and really fun to go through. You can also get some good buys on gold in Singaraja.....and if the kids start jonesin for a "real" store...theres a Hardys...
Lovina and the surrounding area has grown a lot in the last few years...there is even a hotel there that has swimming with the dolphins. Theres a nice deli...with imported foods and fabulous bakery goods, lots of bookstores, many new restaurants, a brand new temple......it's located in the recently developed east side of the dolphin staute....theres a nice beach walk and many new shops...it has really changed...
Also....you can take bemos there....they come every 15 min. or so...they run only til about 7 PM maybe less, then you'd need to find transport...so unless your kids just wanna be in malls and shops stuff like that....then I can't imagine they wouldn't enjoy Lovina...I spend a lot of time there...and I absolutely love it..
Whatever your decision....have a great time..
