if your eating at small warungs then you can feed yourself very cheaply during your stay.
My favourite little warung in Tuban is located at the back of Bakung Sari Hotel (located to the left) in Jl. Kubu Anyar. Last time when I had to provide meals for 7 I'd pop in there and get some take away paper cones which you fill with what ever you like and cost about 80,000rp to feed 7 people (I have never spent any more than 100,000rp there to feed all the family or friends). Can't think of the name of it but it's very popular in that area and packed with locals at lunch time. (Although as Ive been told by some local friends that this warung is a luxury for them if they were to feed their whole family). So in saying that if you go looking at where the locals eat in small roadside stalls that have no fancy kitchens and basic cooking utensils and you don't mind eating there you wont need much for your food allowance.
You will find the cheap warungs in the back streets. Another favourite of mine is at Kerobokan which I get my friend to take me to on every visit for a bite to eat at lunch.
Also at small restaurants that are not fancy you can get yourself an indonesian meal that will fill you up for 20,000rp - 35,000rp (on average).
You could easily get by with $2 - $5 for a decent meal at warungs.
Of course though like Thailand, if your going to the tourist restaurants you can expect to pay similar prices. The fancier the restaurant the more you will pay.
We always go to warungs for lunch then out to a nice restaurant for dinner. When you find a warung that is packed at lunchtime with locals and expats you will know you've found something good!
