Be sensible. A few years ago when I was alone in Bali after my husband had gone off to remote parts of Indonesia surfing the guys at the hotel told me to never ever tell anyone (Balinese or tourists) that I was on my own. I hadn't noticed people asking until it was mentioned & then I found that it happened often, just out & about & in restaurants - I'm past the partying stage. Mostly I guess it was just curiosity but I heeded the advice & have done ever since as I am often there alone.
That said, I feel safer alone in Bali than anywhere else.
