Hi Claire, I have stayed both in the Rama Beach resort and the Ramayana. The cottages at Rama beach are good, but also the rooms on top level are large and airy, we had interconnecting rooms as we were with family. Great hotel and good breakfasts when I was there, but it was a few years ago. The only issue for me was the location but there was a shuttle bus that goes to the Ramayana, so not that much of a problem.
The Ramayana has a great position opposite the Art Markets, at first we were given a room at the back of the hotel which we didn't like, so we were moved to a poolside room as soon as one became vacant. Nice friendly place, staff good and food ok. Rooms also big. Pillows a bit hard though, lol.
