..The village of Trunyan is NOT what I would call a "tourist area". The inhabitants allow tourists to enter their village but don't make them feel very welcome.You have to hire a boat to get across Lake Batur and often the boatmen will demand another price as you reach the middle of the lake. Perhaps visiting with a formal Tour Group would make it easier. Trunyan is already mentioned in Edicts written in the 9th century, which insured its semi-independent status. It has customs and ceremonies that are completely different from the rest of Bali, but outsiders are generally NOT allowed to witness them. If one is aware of these things it makes the visit a bit less frustrating. Good luck!!!!
