As for the rest, I'm truly sorry that that part of your vacation was a bit spoiled, but you should be aware that the average Indonesian gets up 'round about 5 A.M., vacation or not, and a 'lie in' means sleeping until 7 or so. Lastly, 'they' generally have the ability to sleep thru anything and they simply expect that everyone else can do the same. I stayed many years in a Balinese compound in Krambitan with lots of kids. The youngest daughter, at that time 5 years old, took a fancy to me and used to stand outside my window at 5:30 and call my name repeatedly until I came out to play. G-dd---n it, have those peope NO courtesy???
