whatever you do be careful esp further north from Kuta around Jayakarta Hotel and beyond - can be extremely dangerous. Regular drownings occur and they rarely hit the news. Be warned. As for rubbish at the moment? beaches are being cleaned up and water seems okay but heavy rains will bring down more rubbish
