most every hawker centre has chicken rice, when i first arrived in Singapore some of the food looked "different" and I really didn't know what to order. Haianese chicken rice is very nice and safe and great for kids if they are fussy. Also if you are unadventurous Fried Fish soup is good, get rice on the side unless you like slurping noodles. Roti prata is just indian (naan like) bread they will give you a bowl of curry sauce to dip or ask for sugar to sprinkle on it. My kids are 5 and 6 and they survive on chicken rice and pratas when we go to food courts. Of course there is always a "western food stall" when nothing much looks too western lol but you should be able to get fish and chips.
