Depending on which accounts you hold with your bank you can usually get them issued for free and the only cost at all might be a difference in exchange rate which, at the money changers in Kuta, is about 50rp. And I'm not sure what you mean by a real hassle. The only extra would be that you should show id when cashing them but this is not always the case and, anyway, the security of being able to get them replaced immediately should they be lost or stolen surely makes up for that little inconvenience.
