During my time of living in Indonesia I have met thousands of maidens who ply the worlds oldest trade. Many have interesting stories, some have broken marriages others are still married but need the money. Many are sold by their families when they are very young and are then controlled by their pimp.
The sex scene in Bali is not in your face in the same manner as Thailand but the number of people involved is very large.
What has always tickled my fancy is how candid many of the maidens are. Most time their "boyfriends" can not speak Indonesian so the maidens get bored to death just sitting around in between the romantic interludes.
So while the "boyfriend" is sitting beside them many have quite happily given me a very accurate description of the "boyfriends" abilities in bed. He sits there in blissful ignorance while she openly tells how good he is, how many times he can perform and what positions he prefers.
The first time this happened I was amazed, however I almost expect it nowdays.
Sadly a large number of these girls are badly educated and when a guy comes along and wants to take them as a full time girlfriend a lot of them can not realise what a great chance they are being handed. I have had hookers explain to me that they can earn 600,000rp in a night and now a guy wants them to live with him full time and not pay her. It does not make sense to them.
Many can only see the short term and end up being the same sad old faces that you will find in the likes of the Mini Bar, Lim Lings and The Love Shack. Luckily there is this marvellous stuff named Bintang, it makes many of these older maidens look attractive enough to score a tourist from time to time.
