I am also Canadian and have never had any issues changing Canadian Dollars in Bali. If it's your first time to Bali just be careful changing cash (or travellers cheques) as it's very easy to get ripped off. Some of the money changers are quite creative when it comes to 'giving you the wrong amount' so have a calculator and count your money before you leave the money changer.

Your best bet is to use the ATM machines. I use the Royal Bank so not familiar with the Credit Union but they should be able to let you know if you can use their card in Bali. At least with the ATM machines, you won't get ripped off, but there is a service fee for using the machine so try and take out the maximum so you are not going back everyday to get more money.

Most Forum members recommend using the Kodak Money Changers as they seem to be the most honest. Bottom line is don't take it for granted that you'll get the right amount given to you. The hotels are very honest but their exchange rates are usually lower than the money changers.

Have fun! Bali is a fabulous place but the money changing is one of my few pet peeves. I've been to Bali 16 times and my only other complaint is that it is so far away from Canada!!!
