- you will begin to experience Bali in a way that will never be quite the same again - the sights, the sounds, the smells, the warmth of both the atmosphere and the people. Be sure to take a little time to soak it all in and it will stay with you for a lifetime. On your second visit you can rush!
At the link below you will find much information about Bali and its people in general and about particular things such as shopping, eating, visiting etc in any of a number of districts including Nusa Dua and Ubud.
In the left side column there you'll find things like a shoppers cheat sheet, a nice day tour, Bali's religion etc and in the 'Forum Recommendations' link there is the specific district info.
I suggest that the first thing you should do is go to your local map shop or scout shop and get a map of Bali. You'll easily see Nusa and Ubud and from either of these two places you can go to anywhere else on the island and back to your hotel in a day. There'll be time to stop and see things that catch your eye and to let the kidz stretch their legs.
Munduk Falls is on the way up to Lovina and you will easily do the trip from Ubud. A bit above the certer of your map you will see Lakes Bretan, Buyan and Tamblingan. To get to Munduk you will turn sharp left just past Bedugul and drive across the top of the other two just before getting to Munduk. From Munduk you can continue north to the coast and then right to Lovina where there are many places to stay. A return trip straight back down the centre of the island will take you through mountains and tropical jungle and just before getting to Bedugul again you'll see a troop of fairly tame monkeys on the right side of the road and little stalls where you can buy bananas for them. Great stop for the children.
An alternative you might consider if you stay in Lovina for a while is to continue on around the east coast road to eventually arrive in Candi Dasa on the south east coast. There are many places to stay and day trips you can take from there.
This Forum is a great place to get all your questions answered. If you like you can e-mail me direct.
You'll have a great trip and the children will be adored by the locals.
