SCBA and Smudge have had a 'working' relationship for the past 3-4 years.
During that time, when Smudge discovered someone that required assistance, he would contact SCBA and then we would, together, provide assistance.
The boy with club feet (Komang) was bought to Australia by SCBA, as listed on the Yayasans website. Smudge did all the groundwork, with arranging appointments, passports, etc, etc and SCBA paid for Komang and both his parents to fly to Perth for 8 weeks whilst medical treatment took place. SCBA housed and supported the family during this time but also paid for food for his family that remained in Bali.
Although Smudge is not part of SCBA's committee anymore, he is still greatly admired by the remaining committee of SCBA for his work amongst the poor and disadvantaged of Bali.
Yayasan Peduli had been funded by SCBA for the Munti Gunning project. When we decided to work together early last year, funds were given to YP to continue this project and then a further $5,000AUD was given to YP in March-April 2007. We know that this money will assist many people that urgently require attention, whether it is medical or assistance with food which is given to them on a monthly basis.
At the end of the day, if someone has something to donate, does it really matter which organisation you give it to, as long as it helps someone that needs helping. There are hundreds, many thousands of worthwhile projects in Bali that I am sure, could do with assistance on a regular basis.
Now, about me. I am the treasurer of SCBA in Perth so this is how I know the particulars of financial matters. I first met Smudge in October 2005 and was fascinated with his work. This lead me to join the committee back in Perth.
SCBA currently has a committee of 6 based in Perth and 2 based in Bali (mostly anyways).
