When we went 3 years ago we booked for our son(10) through the company located in a small office (Bali Learn To Surf)just inside the grounds of the Hard Rock in Kuta. They were great and we emailed and booked in advance. The day we booked was cloudy and raining but guess what...that meant no-one else went so my son had a private lesson for the price of a group lesson. i have posted the link below. I would advise against hiring just a board from the beach until your confident, lessons are cheap enough. My advise also is to wear a very tight rash vest, full lenght sleeves as once you got the surf bug youll be out there every day and get a rash near your armpits in no time from the friction of paddling and the board. My son recently got one from a surf shop for about $60
