Tempeh: A staple of vegetarian diet. Made from soy bean curd (tofu), and various grains. Very tasty. Basically replaces the meat in many dishes.

You can get any kind of food in Bali. It is a culinary melting pot. You can eat all Western all the time if it suits your palate (and stomach). If you want to try something new, just ask the restaurant staff about the spice/curry level. Good thing: everything is very inexpensive, so if you make a mistake and order something that is incompatible with your system, it won't upset your wallet.

You will never eat a meal in Bali without being provided cutlery as a matter of course.
