I'm travelling to Darwin from Perth with my 8 year old son on 27th jan and then on to Bali 7 hours later.As these are FF seats and we only got them in december it didnt really bother me.
However 7 hours is a long time to wait! But after doing some research I found out that our travel insurance also covers car hire insurance and so to hire a car from the airport for 5 hours works out to approx $40.00,which is about the same as the price of the airport shuttle just to get into the city.
So we will get to sightsee around Darwin and if we get tired we will have a snooze in the car with the aircon fired up and then fly with airnorth to Bali and arrive there at 8.30pm that night.Shelley
