I've used Air Asia lots of times and have had no problems. They are the equivalent of the budget airlines like easyjet that we have in the uk - no frills, no drinks/food, sit anywhere you like - but their flights are a good price and they have always seemed professional to me.
Trains are good too - make sure you use Executive class though. It isn't that expensive, and if you go standard class I was warned that you have to keep a closer eye on your things etc... a local guy in Java told me this. It's not very expensive to pay for a higher class.
