Australian beer on the shelves here has probably been stored in the open for a length of time. Therefore it is likely to be "sunburnt" and taste like cr#p. Advise him to try Bintang. It is a very good beer when it is cold.
If he will drink VB it means that his taste buds are shot anyway, so just give him anything. I have been told that goat urine is quite similar to VB. Failing this a mate of mine knocks up a horrible home brew, we could feed him some of that.
Bintang purchased from the right places costs less than 6,000 rupiah per stubbie.
