Both are places I would recommend, full of character, beautiful staff, great pools and rooms you will never forget! they are a bit out of Ubud but it's a very pretty and interesting walk, or they will drive you for free, we had no problems with our two kids walking (aged 9 & 12). Also they don't have a restaurant but as one of our kids was sick with the flu we had to eat in a few times and had no problem with the food, it was yummy and hot, they own a restaurant near by and bring it from there. These hotels are really special, Alam Jiwa has a family room it is like a two story house, at both properties we stayed in the biggest room ever and four of us easily fit, with us each having our our own wooden beds with mossie nets. check them out on trip advisor reviews.

You sound so excited to be going back ! we stayed at Candi Dasa and drove up to Amed to snorkel for the day, just before you get to Amed, on the coast road, is a Japanese fishing boat wreck about 4/5 metres off shore it's marked with floats and is an excellent dive for the kids, lots of fish etc. but go early and check your tides. Next time we go we are going to stay at Amed for a few nights to snorkel and chill out!
Tried snorkeling on Nusa Lembongan but we felt the tides were to dangerous for the kids and our villa manager was also worried about them so we gave that a miss, but there are some very popular sites around the island, and it's a great place to take the kids for a few nights

We had a great 3 weeks with our kids last year, if you have any questions email me.
