We always take bubble gum or lollies for the children to chew and suck on. Last year our 9 year old had a cold and suffered with the pain of the pressure in take off and landing and this did help. We also take gameboy, activity books, pencils one or 2 toys, cards and some snacks. We find they usually just watch the movie, but we come from Perth so it is only 3 hours. Take off, food, movie, land!
We also told them exactly what to expect every step of the way so they were never nervous or scared on their first trip. In fact we talked about Bali so much to them that eventually they asked us if we could not talk about it any more. Needless to say they don't do that anymore and now instigate the conversations!

I know your kids will love Bali. One more thing though, we warned our kids that Bali smelt different. We really talked it up calling it 'Bali Smell' so when they got there they weren't turned off the place because it smelt different. In fact on the last trip my 7 year old got off the plane, took a big whiff and squealled in delight!

Good luck
