I live in Ballina and my best options are Brisbane to Denpasar via Sydney, or two separate airlines to get me Ballina to Sydney, then Sydney to Denpasar (not much difference in price, just more hassle). You might find it cheaper flying Gold Coast to Sydney (cheaper than Ballina to Sydney), then on from there. Times like these I wish I lived in Broome. lol
