I take cash, you can leave it in your room safe or the lobby safe. I pay my hotel bill with visa and have credit cards handy for any cash emergency. Don't exchange before you go you can change 50.00 at the airport easily , then cash more later at a money changer.
travellers cheques are a hassle in this day and age.
