I've been there a number of times and always had icy cold beer,beautiful steaks,nice chips and salad and although I am not a wine drinker,what I tried was quite nice. Maybe you struck a bad night? Every one I've talked to has enjoyed it.
Another place worth a try in the German Bakery ,on the main road in Kalibukbuk just east of Jl.Rambutan.Lovely cakes and pastries,beaut fillet steak,and a good selection of wine,food etc.
For cheap tasty 'tourist food'try Warung Waru Bali. Used to be on the beach front at the end of Jl Rambutan but is now located in the grounds of Astina Cottages,just before the beach.Great place with great staff.
