you dont pay any tax on paintings as we import paintings from bali to sell here and we dont pay any tax at all as they are exempt due to being fully handmade but the other things will attract tax. Dont put anything illegal in there bring it home with you such as fake designer bags and billabong clothing. About 1 in 20 containers are searched by customs so dont risk it as the fines here are huge if its a few of the better known brands. In saying that buying in Bali and importing can be good for you and the Balinese so have fun just be careful.
