One route, via Moneky Forest Road, involves a pretty steep hill or the other route is fairly flat. But obvioulsy you get the usual Bali 2 foot higher kerbs so everytime you cross a driveway while walking on the footpath it is down you go and back up again - i find that more tiring than the distance !!!
I dont know about any cheap warungs but the restaurant right out the front of the TS - Warung Enak - is one of my favourite restaurants in Bali - amazing food. Cheap by western standards but medium by Bali standards.
