popular through Bali and it would be a rare day none was going on, usually associated with a temple ceremony or as part of a "house-warming" ceremony. Anywhere you see masses of motorbikes parked in a village you will almost certainly find a cockfight going on. It is a bit hard to understand what is happening as all in Balinese and a lot of time is spent in preparing the birds and in arranging bets and then the fight may be over in seconds. Regardless of Western sensitivities on the topic cockfighting is an integral part of Balinese life. I have never heard of a police raid on one of these events but now doubt do occasionally occur - at a temple I pass regularly they had cockfighting every day for the whole week of a big ceremony with hundreds attending in full view of road.
