My prefereces would certainly be towards the Legian end so i would be thinking Mandira or for a little more expense the Padma. The beach is pretty good up here compared to Tuban but then as a Perthite i dont reckon any of the Bali beaches are any good (we are spoilt here in Perth). The Legian is also very nice.
The Mandira has nice pools and is in a good location. Dont bother with the Club Class upgrade though - i thought it was pretty average after seeing the Padma club lounge !!!
I am now a Padma convert and will be staying there my next visit but that is because i love the gardens and ambience of the place - the gardens have been well designed to create lots of intimate spaces.
All three of these hotels are within walking distance of plenty of shops, restaurants and Poppies 1 & 2.
