We have done the Bakung Sari thing, on a real cheapie, and decided that it was better to pay the extra few dollars for something very much better.
There are options for top quality accomodation at around $12 - $15 per head.
Maybe you need two couples to get rates like this, but the places that I know have seperate bedrooms and bathrooms, and cannot be compared to "budget type" hotels.
Each to their own, but after 30+ trips, I now know which is the better deal.
