I've stayed at the Sofitel twice and love it. I would call this a classy hotel. Great breakfasts. Part of it is buffet and part is 'a la carte'.
The pool is beautiful and the beach is just off the pool area. The sand in front of the hotel is dark grey, almost black but there is white sand when you walk 5 minutes in either direction.
There is a new hotel/residence type property called the Anantara that has been built right infront of the Sofitel. It blocks the view of the rooms that are on the left hand side of the hotel when you are facing the ocean from the lobby. If you can request the other side (which is the bigger side) you'll have beautiful views of the gardens.
