we stayed in August 07 and have just booked again for this year in a deluxe suite...we have 2 kids 4 & 6 and the suite is perfect for us as there are sliding doors to seperate rooms. 2 Tv's etc, dining area buffet with fridge, lounge area...2 balconies..we always have stayed at bali rani, dynasty, febris...but last trip had a look at patra and loved it...people say its too far out but its not...the hotel supplies a shuttle 5 times per day to main drag of kuta and because you have bubs and missed one of shuttle times, they have thier own hotel cars that will drive you if you ask or they call you a taxi which wait outide hotel entrance...i am a big shopper and thought i would miss just being able to pop out of hotel and be staight into the shops but i didnt...The Patra is a real resort holiday and pool and grounds are divine, staff wonderful..as they all are...big yummy breakfast...we had an upstairs suite and loved it...was a nice little stroll to the pool (ask for deluxe villa on north side)...checked out kids club...was ok but i never put my kids in...the pool area for kiddies at patra is nice and shallow with shade...As for playpens you could take or buy porta cots at Mataharis and donate to family?? My kids have been 6 times, 1st trip i purchased pram in bali, paid $70, it was like a Peg perago with hood, fold down seat, tray, reversible handle etc...my girl was 14mths and this worked great as it was used to feed her in...we loved it that we bought it home...I also took new microwave (3) which was fantastic...just a cheapie from big w new...best thing i ever did...i heated her bottle, warmed tinned heinz food for her meals, cooked 2 min noodles for my son...we would feed kids in room b4 we went out and when we dined we would buy them icecream or chippies etc... I filled my suitcase with food, tinned baby fruits, crackers..I got my daughter used to UHT Milk b4 we left...each microwave we have left with our friend to sell...I only paid $70 aus and customs only questioned us once...told him it was to warm "susu" (milk for baby) and he was fine...as balinese love kids...I was well prepared and the holiday was easy!! if you would like anymore info just let me know...sorry i have woffled along...cheers...
