RE: the hotel- depending on size -I would definitely be locking in room safe- or have staff lock away in main safe.

I have done both.

Also a good idea if you lock away with main reception, then be sure to keep a log with them ie: signing it in and out.
Could avoid any problem as to its where abouts.

I have just bought a Asus EEE PC laptop
Its only 7" inches and weichs less than a kilo!
Built in Wireless Modem, etc

Small enough to carry in my handbag LOL.

I am not sure about weighing in as hand luggage.
If concerned
I would suggest a mini personal DVD player and utilising one of the many Internet cafe's in Bali....very inexpensive.

Please be careful if you decide to take your Laptop, as many Insurance policies
exclude in fine print, or only reimburse a small amount for electricals, and maybe not enough $$ to replace your current model.
