Sanur is a good place to stay esp. with young ones. The beach is really nice,it is protected by a reef so the water is relatively flat(no big waves)which is good for kids also the walkway along the beachfront is terrific. My youngest son was 3 the first time I took him to Bali with me,we stayed at the Gazebo(on the beach)which was a great place to stay(although looking a bit tired now). I took a small bike with us for my son to ride and then left it for our friends little one when coming home.
My son loved riding his bike everyday along the beachfront, so now we just borrow a bike from our friends for him to use.
If you are looking for childminding, there is a place called Cheeky Monkeys just across the road from the Besakih Hotel. It is just like a long day care centre in Australia and caters for children from babies upto 6 years old. It is used mainly by expats but is available to tourists for a reasonable amount. My son had a ball and it gave me the chance to have a day out doing what I wanted to do and not have to worry about him.
If you decide to stay in Sanur I am sure you will have a great time.
