I would not see why not. I successfully used my St George Visa Debit a couple of years ago.
When I go to Bali, I use several payment methods (take over cash, CC, Debit Card and Eftpos card). Just dont keep them all together, and if anything happens you have spare cards until you get replacements. Anyway, isnt police and nurses credit owned by the Commonwealth??
