Hi, Altough I agree largely with the posted article, there are ways here in Bali where it is possible to buy Freehold land and build your dream home. It is possible to buy Freehold title via a PMA, a foreign investment company whereby the foreigner runs and owns a registered business in Bali. Ok, there are still risks and you need to get yourself a good legal advisor but things aren't as bas as they sound. Also, many people opt to buy a lease on a piece of land. Done properly, you can lease the land for 25 years with the option of an extension, (usually based on the current price of gold at the time of re-leasing and based on a set gramme amount). Really, if you can't enjoy your new villa and also be able to recoup the amount that you have paid for it in terms of rental $, then there is something wrong.) Additionally, imagine what a 25 year old bilding would look like after 25 years....I really dont think that there would be any value left apart from that of the land. The thing is, you only pay Lease value on the land...not market value price as if you were buying it. If you can enjoy for at least 25 years, I see no real problem as long as you are careful and seek the experience of a good lawyer.
