once we were in Bali and we had $100 notes that were ripped on the corner. We couldnt exchange them for Rp. No one would take them. We went to the consulate where we told them our prediciment and they gave us a small amount of Rp to get by with (equiv $100AUD) we arranged to repay the amount as soon as we got home. This was in 1990 though.
