Have stayed there twice - May 04 and December 06 - and would have stayed there in December 07 but we booked too late and missed out.
One side of the hotel has a two storey building - each with a verandah (upstairs) or a courtyard (downstairs), clean rooms...nothing flash but very clean.
The other side of hotel features ground floor rooms with courtyards -these were very clean also and personally I liked that they were away from the main part of the hotel as they were quiet and peaceful.
As mentioned rooms are a little tired but last time I was there they were starting on reno's on the ground level rooms. Gardens/grounds are lovely, staff are very friendly and meals very nice (great banana pancakes!). Breakfast is rice or bacon and eggs any style - second trip there we skipped the breakfast inclusion as from experience we knew that after a few days bacon and eggs become very boring.
Handy little convenience store right outside (water, postcards etc) and we've always found the shops along the laneway great for a bargain. Never had a problem with taxi's...hotel was more than happy to call one for us if there weren't any around.
Great hotel for the price.
