Under no circumstances change your Aussie into Rupiah in Australia because it's most disadvantageus to you. Banks and exchange facilities here carry "wide spreads" which means their "Buy" & "sell" rates can be as much as 1500 Rupiah apart. If you purchased Rupiah here the differential is in the order of RP600 per AUD$1.

When you arrive in Bali you will find that there are facilities after curtoms where you may change a small amount of Aussie to allow to cover immediate expenses, such as Taxi fares, and tips to hotel staff.

When you want more money exchanged there many reputable places and the one I favour is "Kodak" shops. I have found them to be both reliable as to rate and accuracy.

Have a good holiday.
